Large French Antique Terracotta Confit, Tian or Dairy Bowl With Ochre Glaze, Rustic French Farmhouse Country Bowl
Large French antique tian, dairy or confit bowl.
This is a beautiful antique part glazed terracotta French bowl. The glaze is on the inside and outside band, its a lovely deep ochre yellow.
These bowls are in great demand but increasingly difficult to find. These part glazed pottery bowls were made in the 1800s and early 1900s. The bowls were traditionally used in the South West of France to prepare the confit of duck before storing for preserving in glazed confit pots.
I bought this beautiful bowl on my last buying trip touring the vineyards of Bordeaux, I was so excited when I saw it in the back of a little French antique shop.
It is perfect for display in most rooms in the home, particularly for a French country farmhouse feel.
This bowl is beautifully aged and in very good condition with no major damage. There are some very small chips to the glaze some staining and crazing (see photos).
