French Antique Majolica Asparagus Server

French antique majolica asparagus serving dish in the shape of a basketT

This beautiful majolica serving dish is illustrated on page 29 of the famous French book Artichauts et asperges en barbotine by Maryse Bottero. It is listed as a design made by the famous French faiencerie Luneville.

It is shaped as a double basket with a branch style carry handle in the middle. It rests on feet which are also shaped as branches. It has drainage holes in the bottom and would normally be accompanied with a majolica drip tray. The colours are muted greens and purples with brown detailing for the branches. Beautiful detail to the piece.The dish is in very good condition for its age. It has a manufacturers defect - a little split to one of the bases of an asparagus stalk . It also has an old repair to the handle - see photos
